What are Mycotoxins in COFFEE?
Mycotoxins are the toxic or poisonous chemical that mold or fungi produce which is commonly grown in crops that have long storage processes like grains, corn, and coffee beans. They can be toxic to humans when eaten, absorbed in the skin, or inhaled. Poisoning by mycotoxins is called mycotoxicosis. Mycotoxins can also be found in the following foods: cereal, nuts, apples, dried fruits, apples, and spices.
What types of mycotoxins are found in coffee?
There are many types of mycotoxins. The following are just of few which can be found in your coffee.
T-2 toxin – Causes neuronal death.
Macrocyclic trichothecenes – Causes neuronal death and olfactory inflammation.
Fumonisin B1 (FB1) – Causes neuronal degeneration in the cerebral cortex and interrupts lipid synthesis in the brain.
Aflatoxin B1 – A powerful carcinogen.
Ochratoxin A (OTA) – Causes dopamine depletion, which causes cell death in the brain
How do mycotoxins spread? Many factors can play in mycotoxins forming in coffee and other foods. Some of the factors are poor environmental practices of crops, exposure during transportation, processing, and selling of crops, and just plain old environmental factors.
